Sun's heating of the Earth, illustration. The Sun heats Earth unevenly. The Sun's rays hit the Earth more directly at the equator. Heating is more concentrated and so stronger. At higher latitudes the rays hit the Earth at lower angles, causing the rays to spread out and weakening their heating effect.
