Onycho- teuthis banksii occurs from the Mediterranean to the Kattegat and Skagerrack and along the entire coast of Norway. Ctenopteryx siculus, Brachioteuthis riisei, and the three species of Doratopsis are small and live presumably in the upper water-layers.
