Interorbital regionconvex, its width 3 to 3? in the length of head. Den-tition moderate; lower jaw a little shorter than the upi)er ;maxillary extending nearly to below the ])0^terior margin ofeye or a little beyond, its length 2| to 2§ in the length ofhead ; lower jaw obtusely pointed anteriorly, its length 5 to §of the length of liead. 9 to 11 branchiostegal-s. 13 or 14 Vm. SalveUnus mallochi, | natural size. rather slender gill-rakers on the lower part of anterior to 200 scales in a longitudinal series. Dorsal with 10branched rays, its origin nearer to the tip of snout than thebase of caudal, the longest ray ^ to ? the length of with 8 or 9 branched rays.
