Navy Petty Officer 2nd class Tom Mitchell says goodbye to his son Christian before getting underway from Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego, Calif., on Aug. 12, 2004. Mitchell is assigned to the USS Portsmouth (SSN 707), a Los Angeles Class Fast Attack nuclear-powered submarine. Portsmouth will make a final cruise to Norfolk, Va., where it is scheduled for decommissioning in October of 2005.
