G-BOAA British Airways Concorde 206 seen in 'British' livery on short finals for runway 28R at London Heathrow
Concorde - the ultimate 'Speedbird' - only 20 aircraft were built including the six prototypes. Such an elegant aircraft! British Airways Concorde G-BOAA (c/n 206) seen here on finals for a 28R landing at London Heathrow. The aircraft was operating flight BA192 from New York JFK. It still seems hard to believe that these fine aircraft are no longer flying in and out of Heathrow - they made a great spectacle over the years. Note the 'British' titles that replaced 'British Airways' for a while. Around 1980, British Airways experimented with an 'American' style abbreviated name of 'British' seen here. The experiment was quite short-lived. Concorde 206 history: - First registered as G-BOAA on 3rd Mar 1974 to the British Aircraft Corporation Ltd. - G-BOAA was the first Concorde to be delivered to British Airways on 14th Jan 1976 with a 42 minute hop from RAF Fairford - Re-registered as G-N94AA / N94AA by British Airways / Braniff Airways from 12th Jan 1979 until 28th Jul 1980 - to allow the aircraft to be flown within the USA - Flew the inaugural BA Concorde service to Bahrain on the 21st of Jan 1976 - To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Concorde G-BOAA, flown by Captain W D Lowe, G-BOAA appears in formation with a Spitfire over the White Cliff’s of Dover - Final flight on 12th Aug 2000 from JFK to LHR and stored awaiting modifictions. - As the aircraft was unmodified, she had to be cut up at LHR once preserved, so that she could be transported by road and sea to her current home at the National Museum of Flight, East Fortune Airfield, Scotland.
