Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae). Sitophilus oryzae is a serious stored food pest which attacks several crops, including wheat, rice, and maize (corn). Adult rice weevils can fly and can survive for up to two years. Male rice weevils produce an aggregation pheromone to which females are drawn. A synthetic version is available which attracts rice weevils, maize weevils and grain weevils. Females produce a pheromone which attracts only males. Magnification: x4 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
