Cigarettes in a packet showing a warning about the damage caused to children by inhaling tobacco. Tobacco contains the addictive drug nicotine, as well as several carcinogenic (cancer-causing) substances. Passive smoking by children increases their risk of respiratory disease. Prolonged exposure to smoke also increases the risk of developing tumours in exposed tissues such as the lungs.
