Catalogues At each Branch a card catalogue is keptin which are listed alphabetically, by author,title, and subject, the books on the dictionary catalogue is for the use ofreaders, and library assistants are alwaysready to explain its arrangement and answerany questions relating to its use. Supplementary to the card catalogues atthe various Branches, a large union cata-logue of the books in the entire Departmentis maintained at the Cataloguing Office, [ 19 ]. Room 100, Central Building. This catalogueis open to the public on week-days from9 a. m. to 6 p. m. Picture Collection The Picture Collection is in Room 100 ofthe Central Building, and is open on weekdays from 9 a. m. to 6 p. m. The collectioncontains more than 100,000 pictures andpost-cards on a wide variety of may be borrowed on a Library , illustrators, designers, clubs andall others interested in the use of picturescan often find useful material in the Collec-tion. The Extension Division (Formerly The Travelling Libraries) The Extension Division is in the CentralBuilding, and has a separate entrance on theBryant Park side from West 40th : 9 a. m., to 6 , week days. It ismaintained for the purpose of supplyingbooks to people who live in outlying dis-tricts of the three boroughs. This is donethrough Community Centres and Sub-branches.
