The surface is broken by numerous hills or ridges, andmostly covered with forests. The soil is productive. Indian corn,oats, and grass are the staples. The highlands abound in stonecoal. Ginseng is one of the articles of export. In 1850 the countyproduced 226,800 bushels of corn, 27,785 of oats, and 36,555pounds of butter.
