The bathhouse foundation ruins on the banks of the Rio Grande serve as a pool today at the Hot Springs Trail in Big Bend National Park
Langford developed the hot springs currently located inside Big Bend National Park in 1909 while searching for a cure to his malaria. Lanford, with his wife and child, built the first tourist attraction in the area when they constructed a bath house and shelters on the site. The water is heated to a consistent 105ºF and was said to have healing powers. They abandoned the site in 1912 when bandits in the area made it unsafe but returned in 1927 when they rebuilt and added a motor lodge and store. The Hot Springs were added to the register of historic places in 1974 and today is a popular attraction inside Big Bend National Park. The bath house foundation serves as a pool today and several structures remain on the site as ruins.
