Brain. Computer artwork of a section through a healthy human brain. The front of the brain is at upper left. The largest part of the brain is the heavily-folded cerebrum (orange/blue/green, upper centre), which controls conscious mental activity. At the bottom of the brain at the rear is the cerebellum (green and orange, lower right), which is involved in maintaining posture and balance and in coordinating movement. Running down to bottom right is the brainstem (orange), which controls basic functions such as breathing. The corpus callosum (green/yellow, upper left to centre right) is a band of nerve tissue which joins the two hemispheres of the brain.
