ANCIENT In order to remove all doubts whether Baptism might notbe administered in the house of the person receiving it, by-means of those baths with which every Roman family wasfurnished, this plate contains one example of those of the baths were small and might be removed from oneroom into another, for many purposes as well as such a bath the Believers in the house of Cornelius mighthave been baptized. The Philippian jailor having usedsuch a portable bath to wash the lacerated bodies of Pauland Silas probably, straightway used the very same bathfor the purpose of washing away his sins , and of afterwardsreceiving Baptism in the name of the Lord.* * The bath represonted above is still extant in the celebrated Baptistery of Con-stantino »t Rome near the Lateran.
