But, except to thescientific student of archaeology and of fortification,the ruins are more picturesque as they were when Isaw them, overgrown with creeping vines and shrubsjutting out from every cornice and crevice, with thewalls so masked by the green curtain that whensome sharp salient angle boldly juts out beforeyou, you start as you would if rounding the cornerof the Flatiron Building you should come upon acocoanut palm bending in the breeze. Here youcome to great vaulted chambers, dungeons lighted by but one barred casemate where on the muddyground you see rusty iron fetters weighing fortypounds or more to clamp about a
