Finally, to accentuate the direc-tion of the ceiling and to eliminate themonotony that a great expanse of aluminummight create, a rich stencil pattern was in-troduced. Associate Architects the lobby of this same building. Here how-ever, ribbed ceiling panels of aluminum leafreflect the red-brown of the tile floor. Decorative tile was used quite exten-sively in the various Memorials. In mostcases the tiles were designed in the archi-tects office for the particular building. Thiswas found necessary in order to harmonizepattern and color with other materials inthe building. Interesting features of all the Memorials,and one so often neglected, are the light-ing fixtures manufactured from designs anddetails by the architects. Again old Span-ish designs were the inspiration for the fix-tures in the buildings of early California-Spanish character. In the modern buildings,where more opportunity for imaginationand originality was offered, an effort was made at all times to keep the fixtures simpleand in harmony with
