Dairy cattle farming. Domesticated cow (Bos primigenius taurus) feeding in an open-sided shed on a dairy farm. The open design aids ventilation, improving the health of the herd. Other cows in the background are resting in sandbed cubicles. These cows are a dairy breed, being farmed for their milk. This is one of the farms in Nottinghamshire, UK, advised by nutrition expert Ian Smith, finalist in the 'Farm Adviser of the Year' category in the 2011 Farmers Weekly Awards.
