. History of the Thirteenth Regiment, United States Infantry. FRANK PAKRR. MAJOR, Ord. Dept,2d Ivieut., 1st I^eut., Thirteenth Infantry, June 14, 1872 to April 18, ARREST OF LOUISIANA LEGISLATURE 231 to the service. Colonel Bluntsbook Rifle and Carbine Firing wasfor many years the authority on target practice. The arrest of the Louisiana legislature by the regi-ment then under the command of Colonel De Trobriand, onJanuary 4, 1875, forms one of the most dramatic incidentsthat occurred during or after the Civil War. An outrageouspiece of political intrigue had secured a puppet governor, who had a semblance of right and who secured Federal inter-ference. The legislature was arrested in compliance withorders and an intolerable condition was brought about untilthe general government withdrew its support from its houseof cards, when the thing collapsed and the legislaturereconvened January 9, 1877. The attachment of old soldiers for the regiment causesthem to re-enlist repeatedly; the following named men havebeen in the Thirteenth seventeen or more years, and are nowpresent for duty. Sergeant Daniel Massie, 25 years. Sergeant Ludwig Persson, 23 years.
