He en-tered the army in 1910, serving two yearsin the Philippines, eight months of wrhichwere spent on a mapping detail; twoyears at Presidio, Monterey, Cal.; sta-tioned at Nogales and Douglas, Ariz., forthree years, being one of the original offi-cers of the 35th Infantry when it was or-ganized at Douglas, Ariz.; instructor atFirst Officers Training Camp, LeonSprings, Tex., and commanding the 3rdBattalion of the Second Officers Train-ing Camp at Fort Sheridan. His promo-tion dates found him as second lieutenantwith the I 2th Infantry, first lieutenantwith the 35th Infantry, and captain andmajor with the 61st Infantry.
