Adams, of Balti- The decision of the Swiss and Italian governments toequip the Simplon tunnel with three-phase traction has al-ready been announced in these columns, and the accompany-ing engraving shows one of the locomotives built for thisservice by Brown, Boveri & Co., of Baden, Switzerland. Thelocomotives are equipped with two gearless motors, whoseshafts are connected to the driving wheels by connecting-rods. Each motor is designed for two speeds, viz., 34 and68 km per hour. The drawbar pull at the lower speed is6 tons and at the higher speed is y/2 tons. The total weightof the locomotive is 62 tons and the weight on the drivingwheels is given as approximately J2 ONE OF THE THREE-PHASE GEARLESS-MOTOR LOCOMOTIVES BUILT FOR OPERATION THROUGH THE SIMPLON TUNNEL more; Simons, of Milwaukee; Doyle, of New York; Winsor,of Boston; Twining, of Philadelphia; Bushnell, of Provi-dence; Reed, of New York, and Mower, of Detroit. Themeetings were devoted principally to drafting the new con-stitutions as required by the resolution adopted at the Phil-adelphia convention, so as to harmonize with the generalplan of reorganization. A tentative form of constitutionwas adopted and will be submitted to the special committee,which consists of Messrs. Brockway, Adams and Swenson,and which was appointed by the American Street and In-terurban Railway Association to pass upon it. At the con-clusion of the work of revising the constitution, PresidentAdams appointed the member of the association to repre-sent the Railway Engineering Association on the committeeon Subjects of the main association.
