Inorder to do this, it is usually necessary to give the patient an anaestheticand to dilate the cervix with graduated or expanding dilators. If suffi-cient dilatation be obtained to admit the finger, the condition of theuterine mucosa can be felt and the diagnosis confirmed. In most cases, however, it is better simply to introduce the curette and bring away somefragments of tissue for microscopic examination. Figs. 95 and 96 showthe appearances presented by such scrapings. It is important not todelay carrying out this exploration, because if the disease be recognised IOO GYNECOLOGICAL PATHOLOGY. ?yyk^ ^MM&Mf^ Fig. 97.—Malignant Adenoma of Endometrium.
