Thin section polarised light micrograph of tiger eye, a fibrous silicate mineral. The fibrous texture is a consequence of intense shear-forces exerted on this siliceous rock, forces that also account for the undulation of the fibrous mass. It is well known for it's silky, golden gloss (chatoyancy) and is a popular semi precious stone used in jewellery and all manner of trinkets. Field of view: 21 x 30 mm.
