Of the former, two GENEALOGICAL AND FAMILY HISTORY ISl died young; the other, Catherine, married Colonel James Mc-Laughry, of the Revolutionary army. The four children born inAmerica were: 1. Alexander, a physician, who married MaiiaKane. He left no issue. 2. Charles, also a physician, who diedunmarried. 3. James Clinton, brigadier-general in the Revolu-tion, was bom at Little Britain, August 9, 1736, and died there,. December 12, 1812. He was ])romoted major-general at the closeof the war. The fourth son was George Clinton, famous in the auuals ofour state. He was born at Little Britain, July 26, 1739, and diedin Washington while in office of vice-president, April 20, 1812,in his seventy-third year. He married Cornelia Tappan, andhad five daughters and one son, George Washington Clinton, who 182 GENEALOGICAL AND FAMILY HISTORY married Anna, daughter of General William Floyd, signer ofthe Declaration of Independence. They had one son, George , who left no issue, and the name of this branch of thefamily became extinct. One of the daughters died in her thirteenth year. Anotherdaughter, Cornelia, married Citizen Genet, minister of theFrench Republic to the United States. The others married intothe Van Cortlandt and Talmadge families, and had many de-scendants.
