Tinea cruris. Groin of a 73 year old man showing a secondary bacterial infection as a complication of existing tinea cruris, a fungal infection of the groin area. Tinea cruris (or jock itch) is a highly contagious skin condition. It can be spread by direct contact or through infected materials. Treatment is with antifungal drugs taken orally, or creams and dusting powders applied locally. Such a course may have to be continued for many months to ensure the fungus is completely eradicated. Antibiotic drugs can be taken to clear up any bacterial infection.
