View NE of St Peter's Church, Melverley, England, UK, one of only two completely timber-framed churches in Shropshire: local oak with wattle-and-daub infill, oak pegs, no nails. The old church was burnt down in 1401 by Owain Glyndwr, rebuilt & in use again by 1406. The porch & bell tower were added in 1670. The church stands beside the River Vyrnwy which is the border between Shropshire & Powys. In 1990-92 the river bank was landscaped & reinforced with a 100ft steel wall 30ft deep as the flooding river had destabilised the bank & was threatening the church.
