Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) feeding by lunging. During lunging the whale swims vertically with its mouth open up through densely populated area of plankton or fish. The whale then closes its mouth, forcing out the water through its baleen plates before swallowing its haul. The humpback whale inhabits the deep waters of all of the world's oceans. Photographed in Antarctica.
