Willow-Leaved [Salicifolia]—A beautiful variety of fine form and rapid growth, having narrow waxy leaves. Beech [Fagus]. European [Sylvatica]—A beautiful tree, growing to the height of 60 or 80 feet. Fern-leaved [Heterophylla]—An elegant tree of symmetrical habit, having beauti- fully cut foliage. Purple-Leaved [Purpurea]—Discovered in a German forest. An elegant, vigorous tree, growing 40 to 50 feet high. Foliage deep purple, changing to crimson. Like all varieties of the beech this is difficult to transplant, hence small trees three feet high are PURPLE-LEAVED BEECH. Birch [Bet nla].
