This valuable and unique novelty has been obtained by carefully hybridizing and selecting for several years the I semi-double varieties of this useful annual until a high degree of doubleness has been attained. They are ex- ; treniely variable, and it is impossible to describe the beau- tiful forms which have been produced. Some are pure j white, yellow or crimson, but the prevailing types are j bronzy yellow, the florets tinged with red or lilac rose, the imbricated ray florets beautifully pencilled ; others have rich crimson centres with clear yellow guard petals; al- though mostly very double, there will still be an oeca- , sional semi-double or even single, but these are almost I equally charming.
