Henry Jermain Maude Creighton (1886-1975), US electrochemist. Creighton studied at Dalhousie University, then in Birmingham, UK, and Zurich's Polytechnikum, Switzerland, obtaining his doctorate in 1911. He spent his career as a lecturer on physical chemistry at Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania, USA, retiring in 1952. He received the Longstreth Medal from the Franklin Institute in 1910. For his work on the synthesis of sorbitol, he was awarded the Howard N. Potts Gold medal in 1939. He was President of the Electrochemical Society in 1939. His textbook 'Principles and Applications of Electrochemistry' (1924) reached a fourth edition in 1943.
