Federal history called it a great victory, and the masses shoutedglory without counting the cost or consulting the facts. To-daythe sea is pouring across the sand bar in three or four differentchannels, and a few months more may see white-capped waves roll-ing over the spot where whole pages of a nations history werewritten with bayonets dipped in frills fatir.
