First public railway. Historical artwork of the Stockton-Darlington railway in England, opened on 27 September 1825. Large crowds saw George Stephenson drive the steam locomotive Locomotion as it pulled 36 wagons over the 14 kilometres from Darlington to Stockton. This railway was later used to transport passengers, becoming the world's first public railway. This is an English engraving from around 1830.
