In 1873 Bean & Stevenson bonght ontthe stock of the long-established firm of Wetherill &Brother, wholesale drug dealers, at 47 and 49 NorthSecond Street, and removed to that locality. Weth-erill & Brother had been principally engaged in theSouth American trade, and their business, added tothat previously possessed b}^ the firm, gave it themost important drug trade in the cit}^ During thisperiod ]\Ir. Stevenson had become a member and director of the Philadelphia Drug Exchange, in whoseaffairs he took an active interest.
