The average cost of $ per acre during the last two years is some- what lower than for the preceding two years when it was $ This de- crease was effected despite the increased use of calcium cyanide, the initial cost of which is much higher than that of poisoned grain and involves an increase of about 100% in the labor charge for distribution. There was also an increase in the more intensive work in the brushy foothill areas where more time is required to locate the rodent burrows, thus incurring a higher labor charge for the acreage treated. A considerable amount of intensive rodent extermination work was done on the National Forest reserve along the north and south shores at the eastern end of Lake Como.
