A meeting of the Saturday Society, a society founded by students and young teachers at the University of Helsinki in the spring of 1830, which met on Saturday evenings with one of its members. Literature was bought with common funds and enthusiastic discussions about them often dragged on late into the night. Initially, the discussions concerned literature and philosophy, but later the aim became the creation of a national Finland. (Artist unknown, but possibly Albert Edelfelt (1854-1905), a Finnish painter noted for his naturalistic style and Realist approach to art.)
