Sir,—In my report for 1897, it was my duty to inform you that over $100,000 hadbeen ascertained to have been lost to the Municipalities throughout Ontario, by defal-cations which were brought to light during that year. I am glad to state that for theyear 1898, the deficits have been comparatively light and so far as ascertained will notreach the sum of $12,000.
