Yoshitune Before Yoritomo

Yoshitune and Yoritomo were brothers and members of the Japanese clan known as Minamoto. After their father and his brothers were killed, they were separated. When Yoritomo (d. 1199) prepared to fight the rival Taira clan, Yoshitune heard of the campaign and came to join it. In 1185, Yoritomo led the Minamota to victory over the Taira. This illustration, dating to about 1906, shows Yoshitune presenting himself to Yoritomo to offer his services in the campaign.
