Sir Alan, whose acts we have already recorded, evidently lived until 1401, as in that year William de Naper, fourth Baron of Merchiston, Constable of Edinburgh Castle, witnessed a charter to Alan de Lawedre, who must have been fully ninety years of age at the time. Of his five sons, the eldest. Sir Robert, inherited Lauder Tower Kcgistnim Magni Sigilli, 1306-1424, p. 14S, No. COAT-OF-ARMS—LAUDER OF HALTOUN THE LAUDERS OF HALTOUN AND BRUNTISFIELD 223 and the Bass; and George, the second son, became first Baron Lauder ofHaltoun. He had already obtained the lands of Sornefawlache, at Grein-hill, in the Barony of Wistoun, from Sir James Sandilands of Calderby the resignation of Marion Pittendreich.^ Sir George de Lawedre marriedLord Douglass sister,- and had one son, Alexander, who succeeded himIn 1408 Sir Alexander, second Laird of Halton, married Elizabeth Forster,daughter of Sir John Forster of Corstorfyne, and according to custom heresigned his lands at Ratho into the hands of his superior, to obtain aregrant in the conjunct names of himself and his spouse. The deed isgranted by Robert, Duke of Albany, the governor, on the 17th December inthe parish church of Dundee, and Sir Alexanders uncle, William, who hadthat year been nominated Bishop of Glasgow, witnessed
