Bolton, in-deed, was a great builder; the Priory in Smithfield,with the church adjoining, having been also eitherrebuilt or completely restored by him. His rebus (abolt in a tun) formerly appeared in several parts ofthe wall connected with this tower; as it still doesupon one of the summer-houses, and the wall attached,on the farther or south side of the mansion.
