Because of their watchful ale^tIlc^s and their loud warning cries in the presence of danger, they are frerpiently kept on farms to warn the other fowls of danger and to frighten away hawks, crows, and the like. Guineas have only recently been recognized as a standard class of poultry. Hut one \'ariety, the pearl, has been admitted to the standard, though whites arc not uncommon. 29.
