The Passage des Panoramas was built in 1799 and it is located on the 2nd arrondissement. Pedestrians can find postcards, coins and old stamps collectors. It hosts the Théätre des Variétès opened in 1807 and still active. The Parisian covered passages were built between the late 18th century and the mid-19th century in order to house shops and restaurants. These arcades covered with glass roofs connecting two streets were an architectural innovation at that time. From the 150 galleries that existed in 1850 only 20 remain nowadays. Each passage has its own special character and they have become a typical Parisian feature.
