Apache helicopter AH-64D Longbow
Boeing Apache Helicopter on static display at the Farnborough Airshow 2006. Upgraded from the AH 64A Apache attack helicopter this twin engined four bladed multi mission attack helicopter is designed as a highly stable aerial platform for weapons delivery. It has updated T700 GE 701C engines designed to fight and survive operating during day and night and in adverse weather worldwide. It features a Target Acquisition Designation Sight TADS and a Pilot Night Vision Sensor PNVS enabling the crew to navigate precision attacks in bad weather . The Apache can carry up to 16 Hellfire laser designated missiles each with a range over 8000 meters designed for the destruction of tanks and armored vehicles. It can also deliver up to 76 off inches diameter aerial rockets with folding fins for use against enemy personnel and light armor vehicles. Its Area Weapons System AWS 30MM Automatic Gun has 1 200 rounds . Powered by two General Electric gas turbine engines with 1890 shaft horsepower each the Apache s max gross weight is 17650 pounds giving a cruise airspeed of about 145 miles per hour 147 kt or 273 kph at sea level on a standard day for over three hours flight. An optional external 230 gallon fuel tank extends its range to 300 km on attack missions or four 230 gallon tanks for ferrying. Combat radius of the AH 64 is approx 150 km.
