Bill whitish at the base ; plumage abovegrey brown ; scapulars and quills deeper in colour; beneath white ;under wing coverts white to beyond the middle, and obliquely trun-cated; legs rather short; tail feathers all of one colour. Inhabits Java, known there by the name of Bedaran or Choweyau. 62—ASIATIC SANDPIPER. Totanus Damacensis, Lin. Trans, xiii. 192. LENGTH six inches and a half.
