A wheellock rifle, Southern German, dated 1776. Octagonal barrel with lightly swamped muzzle, and a seven groove rifled bore in 14 mm calibre. The date "1776" is engraved on top of the barrel behind the brass-filled marks showing a pelican and the monogram "GS". Dovetailed sights. The lock with an interior wheel, richly engraved depicting a hunter with a boar spear and hounds, bringing a stag to bay amid profuse vine decoration. The cock shows remnants of engraving.
