Main tower and west facade of St Vitus's Cathedral, Prague Castle, Prague, Czech Republic.
The present building was commenced in 1344 on the orders of King Charles IV under the supervision of the French architect Matthew of Arras. In 1353 Peter Parlér took over the work and on his death in 1399 his sons Václav and Jan continued it. The building was not finally completed until 1929. The tower is 96m high, commenced in the 15th century by Parlér's sons, though the steeple by Palassi was not added until 1770. The Golden Portal by Peter Parlér is to the right of the base of the main tower.
