USS MAKIN ISLAND, Gulf of Aden (Dec. 27, 2016) Marine Sgt. Ryan Boele (left), an MV-22 flight line mechanic, speaks to Lance Cpl. Nickolas Thomsen, an MV-22 airframe mechanic, both with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (Reinforced), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, while removing an engine from an MV-22 Osprey on the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Dec. 27. The engine power performance (EPP) on both engines were low and therefore scheduled for replacement. The 11th MEU is currently supporting 5th Fleet’s mission to promote and maintain stability and security in the region.
