Supracaudal gland consisting of four overlapping, luminous scales; infracau- dal gland short (less than 50% CPL), with five overlapping, luminous scales. Maximum length 40 mm. Remarks Due to the poor state of preservation of one (ZMB 22379) of the two syntypes (Table 1), specimen ZMB 17617 is here designated the lectotype of Myctophum (Lampanyctus) nigrescens Brauer, 1904. Comparison of this lec- totype with the holotype of Lampanyctus microchir Gilbert (USNM 74468) and the lectotype of Myctophum (Lampanyctus) micropterum Brauer (ZMB 17616) indicates that only a single species is involved. GR counts are similar (3 + 1 + 8,.
