The town ofFethard, an ancient lo-cality of prominence,sending two membersto the Irish Parliament, is now but a village. A few miles north of it is thebeautiful ruin of Tintern Abbey, which also can be reached by Nelson-bridge,over the Owenduff, from Clonmines. This interesting abbey was founded in1200 by William, earl marshal of England, and earl of Pembroke, who mar^ried the daughter of Strongbow and the princess Eva.
