Engineers maintain the WISH instrument, which is used for neutron diffraction experiments. Neutron diffraction is a technique used to determine the three-dimensional and magnetic structure of materials by analysing diffraction patterns produced as beams of neutrons pass through them. This diffractometer uses a neutron source and a large array of detectors encircling the sample to study, amongst other things, exotic superconducting crystals.
