Y., in 1799; studied law andsettled in Detroit; member of the Michi-gan legislature in 1834, and there intro-duced the bill which provided for thedivision of Michigan and the establishment of the Territories of Iowa and aided in founding Madison, Wis., whichcity was made the capital of the Statethrough his efforts.
