The building of Restaurant Uusi Seurahuone (New Society House) in the City of Oulu in Northern Finland was completed in 1884.
In November 1882 the center of the City of Oulu was destroyed in a great fire. Two years later Sea Captain Johan Fredrik Petrell had his private house built near the sea shore, and it was called "The Petrell Palace". The building was designed by the architect Hugo Neuman, who had studied in the Polytechnic School of Zürich, Switzerland. The baroque palace was the first luxury class stone building in the whole city. It later became a business center, from 1902 on it was owned by an ironmonger's store. In 1999 its new owner thoroughly renovated the building for a high class restaurant with its meeting and cabinet venues, to be opened in 2001.
