It consisted of the solid-fuel first-stage booster rockets and the liquid-fueled core stage from the Ares V Cargo Launch Vehicle with the upper stages of the Ares I Crew Launch Vehicle. The upper stage was to house the Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle. The rocket is topped by the Launch Abort System tower.
