North and South America, 1560s. 16th-century globe map of the Western Hemisphere and the Americas, titled in Italian: Universale della nuovamente parte del mondo ritrovata. Relief is shown pictorially. The Italian text labels includes the North Pole ('Polo Artico') and South Pole ('Polo Antartico'), and West ('Ponente') and East ('Levante'). The equator and the tropics and polar circles are also shown. North America is labelled 'La Nova Spagna' (New Spain), and South America is labelled 'El Peru' (Peru). This map was created by Italian cartographer Giacomo Gastaldi () and published circa 1565.
